Biography

Regis Francis Xavier Philbin was born August 25th, 1931, and was raised in the Van Nest neighborhood of the Bronx and attended the school which makes the Concourse Grand - Cardinal Hayes High School. After graduating, he attended the University of Notre Dame and served in the U.S. Navy, where he found his calling in television and became a staple on American television since joining as the co-host of The Joey Bishop Show in the 1960s. Philbin went on to become a household name thanks to his co-hosting job on ‘Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee, which later became Live! with Regis and Kelly’ and was the original host of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’. Regis also made regular guest appearances on various shows and movies such as the Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live! Seinfeld, the Fresh Prince of Belair, Miss Congeniality, Cheaper by the Dozen, 30 Rock and Spin City. Not only did Philbin set a Guinness World Record for “Most Hours on Camera”, but he was also nominated for 37 Daytime Emmy Awards and received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. His impact on the world of entertainment, as well as his warm and affable demeanor, left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions off and around the world. Regis Philbin's legacy as a beloved television host and entertainer will undoubtedly continue to be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
