Jimmy Sabater, was a highly influential musician, singer, and composer in the Latin music scene. Known for his soulful voice, charismatic stage presence, and contributions to the development of latin boogaloo and salsa music, Sabater left a lasting impact on the genre and remains a revered figure among Latin music. Sabater's musical journey began at a young age when he discovered his passion for singing and percussion. He became a skilled conguero, and his rhythmic prowess would become a defining characteristic of his performances. In the 1950s, he co-founded the Latin music group Joe Cuba Sextet, where he served as the lead vocalist and conguero. His interpretations brought depth and emotion to his performances, making him a standout vocalist in the music scene. Sabater was also a talented songwriter, co-writing several hit songs for the Joe Cuba Sextet, including the iconic "Bang Bang" and "El Pito (I'll Never Go Back to Georgia)." These songs, characterized by their rhythms and melodies, became anthems of the latin boogaloo era. Sabater embarked solo, releasing albums that showcased his vocal prowess and versatility. His recordings, such as "To Be With You" and "Cuando Cuando," captivated audiences with their engaging melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Jimmy Sabater's impact in the latin boogaloo and salsa genres is immeasurable. In 1976 Jimmy Sabater released a disco version of the song “To Be With You” which is an all time classic.
